Cataract and Cataract Surgery
Dr. Wellington Chang specializes in the evaluation and management of ocular conditions, including cataracts, and performs cataract surgery and laser cataract surgery.
What is a CataractA cataract is a clouding of the natural lens in our eye that impairs our ability to see clearly. Over time, this clouding can worsen, making daily tasks such as reading, computer work, gardening, and driving, more difficult.
How is a Cataract TreatedCataract surgery is a commonly performed procedure that removes the clouded lens and replaces it with a clear lens implant, restoring our vision so that we may again see as clearly as we once did. There are typically two surgical options for cataract surgery: traditional cataract surgery or laser-assisted cataract surgery. Determining which option is the most appropriate approach is an individualized assessment and decision. Both traditional cataract surgery and laser cataract surgery are offered by our eye surgeon.
How Do I Know If I Need Cataract Surgery
The determination to proceed with surgery depends on the progression and stage of a cataract as well as how much it impacts your daily activities. Once a cataract progresses, and as daily activities become more difficult, surgery may be considered.
Is LaseR Cataract Surgery Right For Me
Our eye surgeon offers traditional cataract surgery as well as laser cataract surgery. Laser cataract surgery allows for more precision and can improve accuracy and consistency compared to traditional cataract surgery. In some cases, the laser can provide more vision correction than traditional surgery. A discussion with our surgeon can help decide if laser cataract surgery is an available option for you.
